Advent, Day 7: Pearl Harbor
Today is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Seventy years, today, in fact. In my dorm room I have giant framed Salt Lake Tribune from August 15, 1945, the day Japan surrendered and World War II Ends!, as the headline says. It's a pretty cool thing for a history major to have in her apartment, I have to say. I found it in my Grandma's basement a couple of years ago.
You know, our generation is one of the first in a hundred years that hasn't participated in global conflict. There was The Great War, then World War II thirty years later, then Americans were all affected by Vietnam. We had our first taste of war on September 11th, but I think we've already forgotten. I hope today that everyone takes just a second to appreciate what we've got going here. We've got unequaled freedoms, and most of us haven't done anything to deserve them.
God bless America!

Advent, Day 6: Free Food
I really think the only reason any college kid goes to church or a blood drive is for the free food.
I'm serious.
Free food is a big deal to a college kid. It's the one unifying thing that binds us all together as students, as citizens, and as human beings.
Today the Cafe Rio in Logan was giving free food- whatever you want, free. And Cafe Rio is everybody's favorite.

My first date was with a boy named Steven. I asked him to a girls-choice dance in a group with two other girls who had also never been on a date.
For our date, we went out for ice cream.
He was lactose intolerant.
We never went out again.

Advent, Day 1: The Greater American Holiday
The first day of my Christmas advent! (Pretend with me here that this is yesterday and that it won't be today until my next post is written and posted and you read it.)
So, last week was Thanksgiving. And with Thanksgiving comes perhaps the even greater American holiday of Black Friday! My roommate brought home the ENTIRE FIRST SEASON of 'The Vampire Diaries'.
We watched it all in two days. That's like 200 hours of TV.
And it was awesome.

My Fancy New Blog And A Christmas Advent
It is Christmastime!
Almost, anyway.
My family has a tradition of christmas advents, to distract us from the anticipation, I think. My lurvly cousin has started a childhood memory advent on her blog. (I wish I'd spent more time on the Internets yesterday, cuz who starts an advent on the 2nd of December? I ask you.)
So I figure, a day late, I'll start my own Christmas Advent December Countdown. What better to kickoff my Fancy New Blog? The theme for it is a little bit non-themish. It's generally just going to be a string of things; cool things, interesting things, amusing things. That sort.
So, coming soon: my first two days of Christmastime advent. Of Stuff.
